7/28/2023 0 Comments Azio retro classic elwood![]() It’s a nice touch and just adds to the level of class and elegance on this keyboard. Sandwiched between the arrow keys and the Ins/Del/etc keys above is a small metal plate with the Azio branding and the words “RETRO CLASSIC” engraved into it with “ELEGANTLY FIERCE” in smaller letters beneath that. The keyboard has a floating key design like typewriters of old. The backlighting can also be turned off which is useful for extending battery life when used in Bluetooth mode. The keyboard is also backlit with white light and has three levels of backlit intensity. The keys lift out easily and expose the custom white mechanical switch with a center LED underneath it. By default, Windows keys are installed but Azio also includes a bag with Mac-specific keys which are easily swappable on the keyboard. The Retro Classic BT features your standard, full-sized layout with a floating key design. The Azio Retro Classic BT Elwood edition in all its walnut wood and gunmetal glory. That being said, the keys still look very sharp against the wood panel beneath it. The same colour frames each round concave black key, unfortunately, the keys are plastic and not metal like the main frame. Around the outer edge of the wood finish is a 3/8″ gunmetal matte frame with evenly spaced rivets. In the case of our review unit, which featured the Elwood design scheme, the next thing you’ll likely notice is the nice walnut finish on the main surface of the keyboard. It’s actually a nice feeling as it feels just as premium as it looks. ![]() Coming in at 3 ½ lbs, the Azio Retro is definitely a hefty feeling keyboard. When pulling the keyboard out of the box, the first thing I noticed was the weight of it. The box is open and you still don’t get to see the keyboard… All said and done, you really feel like you are unboxing a more luxurious item. On the underside of the lid is a pouch which contains the user guide, as well as a smaller clear card holder on the outside with a sample chip of the keyboard finish. Even the packaging helps make you feel that you’re about to open something a bit more elegant than usual.įlipping the lid up and you’ll see even more branding as the keyboard is covered with a thin bag with the same branding as the black box, as well as a plastic tray to hold it in place amongst the side foam pads. Sliding the box out of the sleeve presents you with a black box and a retro-looking stamped logo in silver with the company and product name. I’m assuming the other versions available (we’ll get into that in a moment) would reflect the leather finish of those. The box has a cardboard sleeve printed with the same wood finish look as the surface of the keyboard. I don’t normally cover packaging in my reviews because, for the most part, it’s usually pretty standard and bland. Before we get too far into the actual keyboard, the packaging is well done as well. Upon taking it out of the box, the Azio Retro Classic Bluetooth/USB mechanical keyboard is something to behold.
